Rebecca Ortiz to the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley
Dr. Rebecca Ortiz has been appointed Assistant Professor of Trumpet at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley.
Ortiz is an acclaimed performer and educator originally from Laredo, Texas, whose artistry is marked by expressive depth and remarkable versatility. She has established herself as a dynamic artist and dedicated pedagogue with a growing national presence. Ortiz holds a Doctor of Musical Arts in Trumpet Performance and Pedagogy from the University of Colorado Boulder, as well as a Master of Music from Southern Methodist University’s Meadows School of the Arts and a Bachelor of Music from The University of Texas at Austin’s Sarah and Ernest Butler School of Music.
An accomplished competitor, Ortiz has earned recognition at major national competitions, including winning the National Trumpet Competition Small Ensemble Division, placing first in the Music Teachers National Association Young Artist Solo Competition and being a semi-finalist in the Roger Voisin Memorial International Trumpet Competition. Her performance career has taken her across the United States as a soloist, orchestral musician, and freelance performer. Ortiz has performed with numerous professional orchestras including the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, Colorado Symphony, and Tucson Symphony Orchestra. She previously served as Third Trumpet with the Boulder Philharmonic Orchestra and held a faculty position at the Boulder Symphony Music Academy. In addition to her orchestral career, she is also a member of Colorado’s premier all-female mariachi ensemble, Mariachi Las Dahlias. Her work reflects a sustained commitment to excellence in performance and pedagogy, contributing meaningfully to the evolving landscape of trumpet performance and music education.
